Poolenalena / Chang's Beach Snorkel Info
Chang's Beach is a hidden Beach at the Makena condos. From South end of Poolenalena Beach swim around the reef to a quiet beach . you should see lots of turtles along the way with some fish.

Directions: The south end Poolenalena Beach and Chang's Beach are located behind the Makena Surf Condos. Head south on Piilani Hwy. Turn Right onto Wailea Ike Rd. (Piilani Hwy Dead ends here). Turn left at Wailea Alanui (1 mile). Wailea Alanui turns into Makena Aluni continue .8 miles past the Wailea Shopping Center. Look for the public access sign on the right (easy to miss). You can also snorkel Poolenalena at the north end and the middle(around the reef). For directions go to Poolenalena Beach
Parking: There are only 8 parking spots, but there is almost always a spot. The public access sign is not easily visible, and most people drive by, not even noticing it. The condo path will take you to south end of Poolenalena beach. There are showers and rest rooms just before entering the beach.
Where to snorkel: Entry is easy with lots of sand. Follow the reef to the left to see the most fish and good coral. Further out along the reef you can find plenty of large turtles. All the way around the reef is Chang's Beach, a small cove usually empty of people.
What to look for: A fair amount of fish can be found and plenty sea turtles. The water was a little cloudy close to shore, but clears up as you venture further out. Found a turtle with his infant swimming around about 150 feet off shore.
Other Info: Both South Poolenalena and Chang's Beach are nice sandy beaches that never get crowded. Arrive early in the morning and you will have the beach all to yourselves. You really do not need to swim all the way to Chang's beach unless you are curious. The south end of Poolenalena has great snorkeling and very few people.
