Late afternoon surf - Charley Young Beach

Charley Young beach sculpyureCharley Young Beach is located at the northern tip of Kamaole 1 beach in downtown Kihei. The beach is named after the owner of the property leading to the beach.while many home owners might have been annoyed with all the foot traffice by their home, Charley would lay out a hose for beach goers to wash the sand from their feet and greet them to and from the beach. A shower know replaces Charlie's hose. There is a small 3 car parking but most park at the end of the block paved public parking lot.

The small beach has good snorkeling at the reef to the right, when water is calm. you will find many sea turtles are calling this area home. This is a quiet beach but is geting more popular especially in the late afternoon around sunset.

You can find sea turtles swimming all along the coast here, and they are frequently seen around the small reef at the far end of this beach. If you are lucky enough to be swimming with one, please give the turtle at least 20 feet of space, so she can easily reach the surface. Never hover directly over them.

Further south at Kamaole 1 is much better for swimming. Charley Young Beach is however one of prettiest spots on the island , and is a great spot for boogie boards, fishing and spectacular sunset photos. You can find shopping and places to eat just across the street.

The surf can get rough in this area. Be careful and stay out if the swell is high or the currents are strong.
