Kalama Beach Park / Cove Beach
Kalama Beach Park is located in the Center of Kihei. Just look for the whale sculpture on Kihei Road. The shoreline is rocky with no beach. The area is not suited for swimming and snorkeling. This is a great place to take a nice walk along the shoreline.
Surfing can be done at several small reefs just offshore, south of the seawall. Pretty mushy, bring your longboard.
The park is a very large park complex great for organized sports, outdoor concerts, festivals and gatherings of all kinds. In addition to beach access, the 36-acre park is home to a variety of athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, inline skating rink, gazebo, picnic pavilions, and scenic landscaping . Latest renovations have been a skateboard park, multipurpose field, a playground and extended the areas for recreation and picnicking.
Cove Beach Park is located at the south end of the Kalama Beach . There is a small park and parking lot to the left of the beach. If full just park along the road. The sandy beach attracts swimmers but is more popular with surfers. The waves are better here than most south beaches so it does get crowded when the waves are decent. Some surfing lessons are taught, but most are done up on the west shore which attracts less people.
