Sugar Beach
Sugar beach is located north of Kenolio Beach extending up to Maalaea Harbor. Most of this 6 mile stretch of of white sandy beach is undeveloped and very quiet. While the southern portion, around the Sugar Beach Resorts, offers some swimming, sand, and facitlties, most of the shoreline has a jagged reef just off shore making swimming and snorkeling very hard. This is good spot for kayaks and paddleboards exploring the reefs off shore.
Also known as Kealia Beach, is perfect for a long beach walk. There isn't any development on the beach until you reach north Kihei so you won't find many people either. Sugar Beach is mainly used by windsurfers who take advantage of the strong offshore winds.
Other Beaches
There are a few small parks and undeveloped beaches along the shore. The Maipoina Oe Lau Park has grassy areas, tables and trees to sit back and enjoy the sunset. Waipuilani Beach Park is a quiet beach with a sandy shore and very few people. At the end of Lipoa St. is access to a nice sandy beach area you will have all to yourself.
These areas have very few people and no lifegaurds. Be careful when entering the water. If there are large swells or a strong current don't go in the water. Remember that surf conditions in all of Maui can change very quickly.
