Waiamoku Waterfall To experience all there is to see and do in East Maui you will need 2 days. Just driving the Road to Hana takes about 6 hours (round trip) without stopping .The drive which is only 60 miles has 56 one lane bridges and over 300 ess curves.Road to Hana While this may sound intimidating the road is well paved and marked, you just need to drive slow and stop often to enjoy the beauty. Day 5 will be driving to Oheo gulch (15 miles past Hana) and back to Hana for the evening.

Road To Hana

East maui Panorama fron the Road to Hana From Kihei leave around 5:30am to avoid tour buses and traffic. Stop in the town of Paia for gas, food, rest rooms, etc. For the trip to Oheo Gulch focus on the waterfalls which are located on the on the right (you get see the ocean views on the way back). There are 2 wayside parks with rest rooms and picnic areas along the way. About half way is a small village with cafes and shops. For navigation use the Road to Hana Map. Oheo Gulch

waterfalls at Oheo GulchOnce you arrive a Oheo Gulch it is a short hike to the waterfalls. If you left early enough you will have the place pretty much to yourselves. After 11:00am the place there will be hundreds of tourists and tour buses. More Info...

Option: Waimoku Falls

Waimoku FallsThe 2.5 mile (round trip) hike to Waimoku Falls is mostly level ground, but can be muddy when raining or crossing the streams. The hike will take you trough a dark bamboo forest. Cool off in the pool at the falls. Make sure to pack a lunch and plenty of water. On the way back you will pass many late hikers that use this trail.

Hamoa Bay

Hamoa BeachOn your way back to Hana stop at Hamoa Bay, touted by many as the most scenic beach in Hawaii. Park on the road and take the steps down to the beach. The surf may be too rough for swimming so enter the water with care. More Info...

Koki Beach

Koki BeachKoki Beach is another scenic beach with red bluffs and a pounding surf, located down the road from Hamoa Bay. Do not swim here without checking with locals. many injuries and deaths happen here. More Info...

Condo

Hana Bay sunriseThere are quite a few condos offering daily rentals in Hana. Hana Kai Condos is one of the best. Many rooms with views and with kitchens and exquisite decor. More Info...

Dinner

There are not a lot of options for dining in Hana. For couples the Travaasa is good but expensive. There is also a pizza place and a Thai restaurant. If you are on a budget shop at the market and cook at your condo. Day Six laft arrow
