Kamaole Beach treesSouth Maui is all about the beaches. There are plenty of options for snorkeling, surfing, swimming or just sun bathing. For snorkeling it is important to arrive at the best spots early. South beaches are calmer in the morning, less crowded, and have better parking options. Try to get to your first beach by at least 8 am.soth end Poolenalena beach For our first trip to South Shore we will explore the Wailea Area known for its resorts and high end residential communities. Ulua and Wailea beaches are great for snorkeling, swimming and relaxing. Polo Beach is less crowded, and a great family beach with bbqs, picnic tables, and shady trees.

Ulua Beach

Ulua Beach is a great snorkeling and swimming beach with a sandy bottom for easy entry. There is limited parking so get here early. The right side of the beach is best for finding fish, turtles and live coral. You can swim all the way around the point to Mokapu Beach and take the trail back. More Info...

Wailea beach

Wailea BeachJust south of Ulua Beach is Wailea Beach located at the Grand Wailea Resort. This is a beautiful white sandy beach with a lot of activities. There is plenty of parking so it is a great spot for later in the day (although the wind can come up in the afternoon). Look for boats docked further out, as they only stop for turtles. Snorkel Option: Molokini Crater

Molokina CraterYou can opt for the Molokini tour which will take you to the Molokini Crater off the shores of South Maui. This tour offers excellent snorkeling at the crater with stops at Turtle Town and Wailea on the way back. The coral and fish are huge in this protected spot if you don't mind paying the $80+ per person fee. More Info...

Beach Option: Polo Beach

Polo BeachFor surfers and sun bathers Polo Beach is a good alternative, usually with good waves in the afternoon. Polo Beach has rest rooms and picnic tables with plenty of shade. More Info...

Beach Option: Poolenalena Beach

Poolenalena beachAlthough Poolenalena Beach has a dirt Parking lot and port-a-potty, it is a nice quiet beach to swim, snorkel, and relax. There are lots of trees for those who need shade. More Info...

Beach Option:Kamaole 1, 2, & 3

Kamaole beach These 3 beaches are located in the heart of Kihei. They offer plenty of activities for the entire family such as basketball, volleyball, surfing, snorkeling and much more. Kamaole 3 Beach is one of Maui;s best locations for sunsets More Info....

Alternate Attraction: Wailea Shopping

Stop at the Wailea Shopping Center on the way back. While this is an upscale mall, you can find discounts and good deals from many of the local shops.

Try Coconut's Fish Cafe for some good food that is not too expensive.
