Day 2 Kihei Beaches
We had planned on going up to the Mount Haleakala for the sunrise, which meant getting up at 4 am and driving 2 hours to reach the summit. After an unanimous vote, we decided to stay close and visit Ulua beach and Kihei Beaches to try out some snorkeling and boogie boarding. We also stopped at the Farmers Market for fresh fruit and banana bread
Ulua Beach
Our first stop was Ulua beach located in the Wailea area south of Kihei. We got there early (7 am) so there was close parking and a good shady spot on the beach. Cameron's first attempt was good. There were plenty of fish close to the shore. Slide Show
Kalepolepo beach
Kalepolepo beach is in Kihei towards the north end. This is a quiet beach with an ancient Hawaiian fish pond perfect for small kids. Slide Show
Kalama Beach Park
Kalama Park is located in downtown Kihei. This is a huge park with baseball, basketball, skate park, and soccer fields. The beach area is mostly rocky but offers great surfing at the south end of the beach. We hiked around a bit, but didn't stay long. Slide Show
Kenelio Park / Farmers Market
At the north end of Kihei is the Farmers Market. While Jan and Cameron shopped, I headed across the street to photograph Kenelio Park. This is a nice beach for relaxing or canoeing. Side Show
